What is a family travel insurance policy?

Family vacations are a precious opportunity to create lasting memories. Whether you're exploring a new city or relaxing on a beach, it's important to know your family can be protected should the unexpected occur. That's where family travel insurance comes in.

A family travel insurance policy is an insurance plan that covers multiple family members travelling together. It offers a range of benefits to protect against unforeseen events that could disrupt your trip or cause financial hardship.

Why consider travel insurance for your family?

There are several reasons to consider travel insurance when travelling with your family:

Medical emergencies.

Medical expenses abroad can be very expensive. Travel insurance can help cover emergency medical treatment, hospitalisation, and even medical evacuation if necessary.

Trip cancellations and interruptions.

Unexpected events like illness, family emergencies, or natural disasters can force you to cancel or cut short your trip. Travel insurance might reimburse non-refundable costs of your trip.

Lost or delayed luggage.

Losing luggage can be a major inconvenience, especially when traveling with children. Travel insurance can help cover the cost of essential items and help locate or replace lost belongings.

Personal liability.

Accidents can happen, and if a family member accidentally causes damage or injury to someone else or their property, travel insurance can help cover legal expenses and compensation claims.

What to look for when choosing travel insurance.

When choosing travel insurance cover for families, there are a few key things to keep in mind:

Coverage for medical expenses.

Make sure your policy provides sufficient coverage for medical expenses, including hospitalisation, surgery, and emergency medical evacuation.

Coverage for trip cancellations.

Look for a policy that provides coverage for trip cancellations due to a medical emergency or other covered reasons.

Lost or delayed luggage.

Make sure your policy provides reimbursement for essential items and assistance in locating or replacing lost or delayed luggage.

Personal liability.

Legal expenses and compensation claims option if a family member accidentally causes damage or injury to others or their property.

Cruise benefits.

If you're planning a cruise, ensure your policy is suitable for cruise-related incidents.

Rental vehicle excess.

Rental car excess benefit can help cover the cost of the excess if your rental car is damaged or stolen.
