The excess is the amount you are required to pay when you make a claim under your policy. The policy excesses are explained in the PDS and are shown in the Certificate of Insurance.

Loss or damage caused by fire (where there is a flame, including bushfire) and explosion. Coverage excludes damage to heat-resistant items (like cooking appliances) if they ignite and damage from heat application without a flame (like cigarette burns) unless you have Comprehensive cover.
Loss or damage caused by storms (violent atmospheric disturbances with strong winds, potentially accompanied by rain, lightning, hail, or snow), rainwater, and floods (covering of normally dry land by water escaping its usual confines).
Home Insurance policies cover various types of damage but excludes damage to plants, trees, pool covers, fences, driveways, and more.
There is a 72 hour exclusion from the date and time the policy was purchased. It also excludes water damage due to building alterations or seepage, and damage from earth movement or vibration unless within 168 hours of the storm, rain, or flood.
Damage to your property caused by the deliberate and harmful actions of others. Coverage excludes loss or damage caused by someone who lives in your home or is at the site with your consent or the consent of someone who lives in your home.
Loss or damage caused by the sudden, unexpected, accidental, and without warning escape of liquid at the site from any fixed pipe, fixed tank, waterbed, aquarium, household appliances, or fixed item used to hold liquid.
If you suffer loss or damage, you must take immediate action to prevent further loss or damage and report the escape of liquid as soon as possible. The policy covers up to $500 to search for the unknown source of a leaking pipe if it's causing damage.
When your building is insured, this covers the cost of replacing building-related glass items (windows, shower screens, etc.). When your contents are insured, it covers replacing contents-related glass items (mirrors, glass in furniture). It also covers repairing or replacing the frame if needed for glass replacement.
Comprehensive cover only. This covers unintentional damage to your building and contents within the policy limits. It's included in your building and/or contents sum insured.
When your building is insured and a claim is covered, and you can't live in your home due to the damage, this covers reasonable temporary accommodation costs for you and your family.
When your building and contents are insured, and keys to an external door are stolen in a covered theft, this covers the cost of replacing the locks within the policy limits.
When your building is insured and a claim is covered, this covers the replacement of trees, plants, shrubs (in the ground or pots), and artificial grass that are stolen, burnt, damaged by a vehicle, or maliciously damaged.
When your contents are insured, this covers loss or damage to contents temporarily removed from your home to another building in Australia (e.g., another home, hotel) due to theft, storm, flood, rainwater, or impact, provided you're temporarily residing there and the contents are in your possession and control. There's a 20% contents sum insured limit for Standard and Comprehensive cover.
Comprehensive cover only. When your contents are insured and you're moving to a new address in Australia, this covers your contents while being moved, for loss or damage caused by fire, collision, or overturning of the vehicle carrying them. There's a 20% contents sum insured limit for Comprehensive cover.
When your contents are insured, this covers your contents at both your new and old addresses for up to 14 days from the day you start moving.
When your contents are insured, this covers repair or replacement of items left outside your building (e.g., garden furniture, BBQs) if damaged or stolen due to an insured event. "Outside your building" refers to any unsecured place at the site, like a carport or pergola.
When your contents are insured, this covers loss or damage to contents in your home office (items used for generating income, like office furniture and computers) caused by covered insured events and up to the policy limits.
When your contents are insured and you own and occupy a strata title property, this covers fixtures you own that aren't insured by the body corporate, lock replacement, and emergency accommodation within the policy limits.
When your contents are insured, this covers loss or spoilage of frozen or refrigerated food due to an unforeseeable public electricity supply failure to your home. A $100 excess and policy limits apply.
This covers your legal liability to pay compensation for accidental death, bodily injury, or property loss or damage to others caused by your negligence during the insurance period. Coverage depends on whether your building or contents are insured and where the incident occurs.
When your building is insured, this covers reasonable costs of demolishing and removing building debris and architectural/council fees after loss or damage. When your contents are insured, it covers reasonable costs of removing contents debris.
When your building is insured and a claim is covered, this covers your legal costs to discharge your mortgage in case of a total loss claim.
This covers reasonable costs for temporary accommodation for your dogs and/or cats incurred under a covered claim for emergency accommodation up to the policy limits.
This contributes towards funeral expenses if someone living at your home dies accidentally due to a covered claim up to the policy limits.
This covers repair or replacement of guests' contents damaged or stolen due to a covered claim, as if the contents were your own up to the policy limits.
This covers the actual replacement costs, up to the policy limits, for personal documents (e.g. passports) lost due to a covered claim.
This covers loss or damage, up to the policy limits, to tools of trade used for your business or occupation while in your home.
This covers the cost, up to the policy limits, of repairing or replacing domestic motors damaged by electrical current. When contents are insured, it also covers food loss due to motor burnout in freezers or refrigerators.
This covers accidental loss or damage to eligible contents (clothing, jewelry, electronics, etc.) anywhere in Australia. It's available as Group cover (up to a limit per item) or Itemised cover (items listed individually with their values). Note that only certain items are eligible for Portal values cover. See the PDS for more information.
